Well, it looks like Hurricane Ike will miss the Dominican Republic’s north coast.  Just as all of the other hurricanes this season have missed.  Talk about a lovely place to live.  Sun, sand, gorgeous people and very few negatives from the weather channel.

Hurricanes such as the upcoming Hurricane Gustav seem to be constantly pummel the southern United States, Florida in particular.  Although the past couple of years have been largely hurricane free, a visit to the www.nhc.noaa.gov website will show you pretty quickly the comparisons.  When compared to the nearby north coast of the Dominican Republic, one sees pretty quickly that living in Florida seems to have a huge number of hurricanes.

The Dominican Republic, particularly the north coast, has very few hurricanes.  The north coast of the Dominican Republic has not had a hurricane come ashore in recorded history!  Why is that?  Mostly it is because of the prevailing Caribbean currents between Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic combined with the soaring mountains (highest in the Caribbean) in the middle of the Dominican Republic.

So if you want a tropical paradise but don’t want to have the danger and cost of hurricanes, there is no safer place in the Caribbean than the north coast of the Dominican Republic!

For anyone who has visited the north coast of the Dominican Republic you have undoubtedly visited Cabarete, the entertaining beachfront community framing the Cabarete Bay.  Cabarete has made a name for itself over the years for the exciting and fun-filled kiteboarding and windsurfing in the bay.  As a matter of fact, I believe Cabarete has held the windsurfing championships a number of times over the past decade or so.

Unfortunately the area has also attracted a lot of land developers, mostly condo developers it appears, who are crowding up the beach.  According to some, the over development of Cabarete by these riding condo buildings will soon mess up the wind currents.  If Cabarete is in danger of loosing windsurfers and kiteboarders, are they in danger of losing the investors for these developments?

I seriously doubt it but who knows?

Confirmation has reached us that the reorganization of the development company behind Cristal Beach Resort has finally been completed.  Late last year, Cristal Beach Resort was one of the most talked about condo/hotel projects on the north coast.  As the sole luxury hotel destination between Cabarete and Samana, the beachfront Cabrera location of Cristal Beach makes it a real winner for early investors.

Apparently the project has been slightly downsized to roughly 60 units vs. the 70+ originally targeted.  The developer tells us that this is because they increased the already spacious sizes of the units and added penthouse suites to boot.  We plan on getting some new collateral information on Cristal Beach if anyone is interested.

We will get some additional information and post it up here soon.

The Dominican Republic is rapidly becoming the “in” place throughout the Caribbean for savvy investors seeking excellent offshore real estate opportunities.  The Dominican Republic is one of the very last unspoiled, tropical paradise island locations left in the world…and definitely the last one remaining in the Caribbean.  For investors from North America, Europe, Russia, Middle East and Far East the Dominican Republic real estate market offers superb return on investment in a safe, democratically governed country within a virtual stone’s throw of the United States.

Throughout our travels in the Dominican Republic seeking the very best real estate to offer our clients, we discover unique and unusual sights, people and opportunities.  In addition to our hugely popular real estate website for Dominican Republic property for sale (http://www.playa-grande-real-estate.com) we will use these pages to highlight interesting properties, villas for sale, people, events and more.

Cabrera is the headquarters of Playa Grande Investments (Inversiones Playa Grande, S.A.), referred to locally as “Playa Grande Realty” or “Playa Grande Real Estate”.  We are not affiliated with the Playa Grande Golf Course but have taken our name from what we feel is a true national Dominican treasure, the famous Playa Grande Beach.  Cabrera is considered by many to be the future “Hampton’s of the Dominican Republic,” hopefully because of what The Hampton’s were designed for originally versus what they have evolved into.

More as it occurs…
